Letter: I like living in Kingman

I'm sure the majority of people in Mohave County love to live here! Then there are people who have nothing positive to say about Kingman.

Now I do not agree with everything the city and county does, but there is a lot to like here. For example, each summer the golf course has about 150 to 200 kids learn about golf. This teaches them discipline and good sportsmanship. There's also Pop Warner football, soccer and little league. Also, there are adult league basketball, softball, etc.

Now about costs ... if you get rid of everything that doesn't pay for itself, there would be no street department, police department, fire department, parks department, including all of the city parks and programs and golf course. Then we would never have any future growth or future!

So for all you people who have nothing good to say about the city, the highways go north, south, east and west, so get on one and leave! That way the majority of the people will be much happier living here.

By the way, that majority needs to speak up more. I would love to hear good stories about living here.

I have been involved in different parts of the city. I was a part-time parks ranger at the park and the golf course. I also served on the Kingman Golf Commission for almost 14 years. I was involved in the Kingman Golf Association at the golf course. I like living in Kingman.

I choose here to live, and I'm staying and enjoying it,
I too, do not agree with everything the city and county do, but it could be worse!
and to all you whiners and complainers, either do something about it, or move to greener pastures.

Kingman, Arizona IS a great place to live !
We have lived here almost 38 years. The
7,000 population has swelled to about 30,000
population. The things we love about Kingman
are STILL the same. Wonderful people, very
friendly, teriffic weather and plenty of things
to do. Lots of parks: 2 parks off Topeka
Street, Beautiful Metcalf Park, The Firemens
Park, Centennial Park and several others
around housing developements. The little
bit of traffic is neat as opposed to Las Vegas,
Los Angeles, Phoenix, Chicago and ANY big
city. The mountains only about 18 miles,
the lake only about 45 miles, I think we
really do have it all. The only thing I wish
we STILL had was the roller skating rink.
Lots of the younger generation in Kingman
had a lot of fun when it was opened (behind
Terrible Herbst). WE LOVE KINGMAN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have my pen and paper ready! I'm sure the list of "good stories" will be a short one.

Good letter. I agree with the idea that if you don't like it here. Leave. There are a group of naysayers who gripe regardless of what is said or done.

I love living in Kingman too. But I would still love living here if we sold the golf course that has lost money for ten years to a private company and let them run it as a business. If its ok for prisons why not golf courses. I play golf but it shouldn't be up to the tax payers to support my game. I can afford to pay for my own fun. How about you Bob ?

I myself am pretty negative about the Kingman area but not due to the great geographical location, the lack of shopping malls, the absence of a noisy international airport or lack of very heavy traffic, it's the disrespectful and inconsiderate people that live here I don't care for, but all the other positive things cover most of that over, except for the barking dogs, cat feces, noisy motorcycles and filthy properties.

Now then, to compare sports as being in the same category as streets, police, fire ...etc, is just plain ignorant. First, I don't mind my money being taken for city services, roads or any other necessity, but to take my money for an unnecessary cost is not agreeable to me, especially with a city gouging me with sewer rate hikes and local taxes. You and some others like the golf course and other sports attractions good, then you donate money to make it run, but you don't want to do that do you, you want hard working tax payers to pay for your particular priority and your reason is that you claim it's for the good of all residents.

You are correct Bob. There are many nice things about Kingman. Nowhere is perfect. There are many good people here and I have enjoyed 8-years here now. Much better than most places. Thanks for reminding us Bob.
