Letter: Keep your feet on the ground

Thought you may be interested in the letter I just sent to Sens. Grassley, McConnell, McCain and Flake and Congressman Gosar.

New gun control legislation is a scam on our Second Amendment rights. There has never been a law in all of history that has ever stopped the act of murder. Law-abiding citizens are the only people who are affected by more gun laws. Every gun law that has ever been written has done nothing but further complicate and infringe on the right to bear arms. We do not have to, nor should we ever, agree to any compromise, no matter how small, to our Second Amendment rights as law-abiding American citizens.

So, stand and fight, don't kneel and heel to the gun grabbers' prognostications of stopping murders.

Robert Pressler

“@ansons nephew And the latest for you gun-grabbers is this from your president.”

I wonder what it is about you that compels you post this outright falsehood day in and day out despite your having corrected dozens of times? Let’s examine the above as another heap of nonsense.

“…for you gun-grabbers..”

I am not now, nor I ever been a “gun-grabber.” As I have told you repeatedly I am an always armed individual who owns multiple firearms and although you find complying with the law repugnant, I also have multiple CWPs that allow for concealed carry. Why do you keep posting this nonsense?

“…is this from your president.”

Yes, Obama is my president and he is yours, duly elected by the majority of Americans. No amount of nonsensical prattle will change that fact.

“Nope, not a slip or a mistake either, he states very clearly that the CT shooter used a ‘fully automatic weapon’.”

And obviously he misspoke – I know in your world that is akin to lying through his teeth - but in the real world he misspoke, most likely because he is not some fanatical gun-nut that knows everything about weapons. And no matter what he said you seem to be comfortable with the fact that 26 people – the majority of them little kids – died on that day. That’s just sick!

Nothing those in the house and senate or state legislatures have done will impact violent crime.

They will regret it in 2014 as many state legislatures and more governors offices are going to flip red along with the US Senate.

It is nothing more than plans to disarm Americans and some "leaders" have been saying it's the just the first step. Sen. Schemer was caught lying about his true intentions with the universal background check, first saying it's not linked to registration then letting it slip that his bill would lead to registration. Registration leads to confiscation.

The 2 things that can help are 1) uploading the names of people who have been adjudicated mentally ill to the NICS database and 2) protecting schools with armed guards, whether police or trained employees or parents.

All other measures are punitive and even BillyJeff, who should know, has said democrats should be very careful when dealing with this issue.

@ rick o' shea:, it's called impeachment 2015, he'll become an historical president for another reason if he doesn't resign first
Barack Nixon Obama.

Talk about parroting Fox News talking points. Simple answer here, no, they haven't.

Every gun law? Really?

So it should be legal for convicted fellons to get out of prison and own a gun? It should be legal for undocumented immigrants to own a gun once they cross the border? And they should not be registered?
It should be legal for a convicted pedophile and murderer to stockpile assault weapons "for fun"?

So without knowing what you're saying, you've taken a legitimate argument, to not support new gun laws, and elevated it to "gun nut" status. WHY? No matter what your opinion is, I encourage you to voice it to your elected representatives, but do so constructively!

Maybe just make your point that new guns laws have done little to prevent gun violence in the U.S. and leave it at that.

Also, realize that your letter/email has to make it through 1-3 people before your Rep. sees it. If you make it sound like crazy talk, they'll toss it before it gets anywhere you want it to land.

I’m not fooled by the left’s claims of taking guns and limited rounds in magazines will save any life.

As my friend Anson would say, “Where’s the proof” Show me the documentation or links that show these restrictions will save lives.” We know there isn’t any proof.

If strict gun laws were effective, Chicago, New York, Connecticut and other states and cities with strong gun laws would have a lower per capita murder rate but just the opposite is shown to be the reality.

The Community Organizer and his crooked liberal henchmen see the opportunity of an isolated incident of a mad men’s murder of children a perfect time to clamor for the beginning of the disarmament of America.

If these people really cared about saving children, gang members that have numerous convictions and gun violations wouldn’t continually be put back on the streets.

Or if they really cared about our children, why don’t they mandate seat belts on school buses?

@ R.P. These are the sign's of the times in which we live, gang's too numerous to mention. Short tempered nut cases running around carrying weapons of mass destruction. Young Americans like so many who feel the necessity to go "armed" and feel it should be their right too do so. More and more meaningless gun control laws, All this country needs is more laws when enacted control noting but the law-biding citizen of this nation.

Well intentioned Governors, senator's, congressmen realize this big land of ours has equally big problems. But haven't the vague s idea how too handle those issues without passing meaning-less legislation. Because, that's all they know how to do.

@ansons nephew

And the latest for you gun-grabbers is this from your president.

"The president told donors at a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee that the gun used in the Sandy Hook shooting was “a fully automatic weapon.”

No, he didn’t just misspeak either. He started to say semi-automatic weapon, and then corrected himself to say fully automatic weapon."

Link:

Ooooooops, I forgot you do not like non-leftist sources. Fortunately, here is the link to the White House website and their own official transcript of his speech. You will find his outright lie in paragraph #15. To make it easier, here's the quote:

"... but also make sure that we don’t have another 20 children in a classroom gunned down by a semiautomatic weapon -- by a fully automatic weapon in that case, sadly."

Nope, not a slip or a mistake either, he states very clearly that the CT shooter used a "fully automatic weapon".

I realize that for a gun-grabber like him it is difficult to keep from lying.

Feel free to make excuses for him.

@ Joe Schmo - and your ridiculous parroting of liberal talking points about why have any laws if gun laws won't stop murder is laughable because there is a huge difference. If you break traffic laws you get a ticket and pay a fine so there is some penalty. But, when the current background check system works, and turns back a criminal from purchasing a firearm, we drop the ball prosecuting the offender. Enforce the laws we have and make it hurt if you break them. Don't trample on the freedom of those playing by the rules.

@ Joe Schmo - just because the NRA and gun rights advocates come off sounding a little paranoid doesn't mean they're wrong. This administration's primary purpose is to exert control over every aspect of one's life. Background checks are already in place for purchasing firearms from a dealer. If Universal Background check means checks for sales between private citizens, then how do you suppose that would be enforced, if the current owners of each firearm weren't required to disclose ownership? And who determines if someone is mentally fit to own a firearm then? The government just took over healthcare, so I guess that works perfectly for them, doesn't it?

“Imagine being in your home trying to reload (5load) clips while outnumbered by assailants in the dark.”

No, I don’t think I will imagine any such a ridiculous scenario. Where do you righties come up with this paranoiac nonsense? If you have many “assailants” in your home it would be best to just tell God, “I’m comin’ home, Lord.” If that has happened you’re done ‘cause you have really PO’ed someone.

Agree that nothing is going to stop someone that has a weapon from using it. Most of the ideas to control guns are potentially likely to backfire. Even background checks can have errors leading to years of waiting. A check on a mentally ill patient can be privileged info and may be unconstitutional under multiple sections of federal law including violating disabled person's rights. If a person has had criminal acts in the past that hit the news, then a lot of hurdles are eliminated, but can, again cause false positives.
Smaller clips or changing the shape of a rifle will be useless. Imagine being in your home trying to reload (5load) clips while outnumbered by assailants in the dark. How many clips do you have in your night table? Or is your gun locked up safely where you can't get to it?
A person's future actions can not be predicted until they go Postal, then they get the forever stamp. Yes I know, to be honest we have to include police from L.A.

@ Robert Pressler:

Why are you parroting the lies of the NRA? The NRA and the rest of the gun lobby are spreading lies and fear and about any law that might create even the slightest dent in the bottom line for the gun manufacturers. That is what this is all about—the ability for the gun manufacturers to make as much money as possible. It’s not about your 2nd Amendment rights.

No one is coming for your guns—that is a lie told by the gun manufacturer’s paid lobbyists. Universal background checks will not infringe on your 2nd Amendment rights—that is another lie. Bans or regulations on high capacity ammunition clips will not infringe on your ability bear arms for hunting purposes or your ability to defend yourself.
You say our laws don’t stop murderers? Well then maybe we should repeal such all laws if they are indeed useless. Maybe we should repeal all of our highway speed limits too since not everyone obeys them. Of course that is a ludicrous argument, but it is what you are essentially saying.

Sensible gun laws are needed to at least impede the ability of crazy, evil people to mow down dozens, including innocent children, in a matter of seconds. Numerous polls show universal background checks are supported by upwards of 90% of the American people. The only thing standing between the desires of the people and the enactment of sensible guns laws are the lies and fear spread by the gun lobbyists who are protecting the bottom line of the gun manufacturers. They have the blood of innocents on their hands.

You righties have really taken that gun-grabber nonsense to heart – considering no one has proposed “taking away your guns.”

BTW – 90% of Americans (even 86% of righties) polled favor stricter background checks. So, as usual, you’re on the wrong side.

Connecticut just passed a 10-round ammo clip legislation. Now when you're confronted at 3 A.M. by home invaders, you'll have to fumble around for that 2nd or 3rd weapon after expending 10 rounds, while the mass-shooter at a shopping mall or school need only bring along several guns to continue the rampages. Oh, and you'd better be careful with the 10 rounds you're allotted under The Rule Of Law, and not shoot one of those little (6' 2" 260-lb) 17-year-old darlings with 10 prior arrests. Google "Castle Defense" (from the English term 'a man's home is his castle') and see where you stand under American law nowadays in the event.
