Letter: A potential candidate speaks up

I have often thought if I had gone to college I would definitely have majored in law and politics.

At this time I feel having representatives who truly care about constituents and the fundamental values upon which this nation was founded is of dire importance. Therefore, I am considering running for the office of state representative of this district.

My agenda will include protecting the fundamental values and definition of marriage being between one man and one woman, repeal of no-fault divorce law thereby re-establishing responsibility and accountability of individuals' behavior and actions, ridding our school districts' budgets of horrendous waste due to administrative top heaviness and teaching the basics rather than delving into politically correct B.S., dissolving accessibility to unemployment benefits for those who choose seasonal work, thereby saving our state thousands and thousands of dollars and helping those who are truly in need of it. I will also stand strong for our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.

Thank you truly,

Amaryllis Smith

“Yes, please run but run as a Tea Party candidate. We need to reassert our party's ideals.”

You mean ideals like charging into classrooms, threatening teachers and scaring little kids? Of do you mean governmental interference in women’s persona medical decisions? Of .. ahh, what the heck, you get the point.

BTW the Tea Party (which is not officially recognized as a "party") is all but dead except in backwater locales.

@Ms. Smith.....I shot too high for some sheriffs and police out patrolling at night. I saw things from my perspective - my neighbours would stay up until 4 A.M. watching TV, some of them let their dogs howl all night, during the monsoon season with only a useless swamp cooler (and don't even think of opening the front door to let air into one's home through the screen door - remember what I just said about barking dogs, and add a couple local yokels driving around in the wee hours with no mufflers). So to my way of thinking, it seemed like a reasonable idea to drive somewhere in the early hours and sit down on a folding chair with a styrofoam cup of ice water, under the stars. And at any rate, I haven't mentioned what else gives me reason for deep thought in such a setting. Then along comes a sheriff patrol. So here is an old guy with a white beard sitting next to his car drinking ice water and able to answer the first couple questions out of civility, and soberly of course. What on earth is the justification for then demanding his ID for a warrant check? It's worse in other locales (oh, Las Vegas, BHC, and across the USA) when the demand is preceded by a lie. Then the law stands behind the lie if you refuse. The money and food supply, environment, borders, civil rights, and so much else are being buried alive by your Government under the rubric of The Rule Of Law. I'll meet with you at the library or Centennial Park sometime, if you wish. If those who have committed their crimes under colour of authority thought I'd go away silently.....maybe the sun will rise in the west tomorrow.

@ PL,

You sound like you are a very caring person who believes in the correct and orderly way of performing and fullfilling the responsibilities one takes on in life.
Our justice system is lacking in performing the way is it intended and the way it actually is. It's frustrating for numerous people in the field of law enforcement on all levels just as it is for the private citizen. I for one would like to be able to try and bring forth some changes in the justice system.

Well put, accurate, succinct and on point. Good job.

@Ms. Smith.....I think you'll find me to be a mix of modesty and assertiveness. In the military, a person learns that there are circumstances in which it is not only permissible but required, to take an assertive stand contrary to orders. I spent 3 years in the U.S. Army, 2 1/2 years overseas during Vietnam. Unlike one of law enforcement's local henchmen, I received an honorable discharge. I do not believe in anarchy. From these statements, I could only seek to do some good around this place. The Miner has my telephone number from comments made within the past 24 hours. Thank you.

@ WHAT DID YOU SAY

I'm sorry, What did I say about what are you talking about exactly?
I don't hate people, I may disagree with some people's choices and I may be adamant in some of those but, it isn't the the person/people but, I may indeed hate the act/actions or behavior, like for instance I hate-absolutely detest drunkenness and I prefer to never be around the act of drunkenness! Does that mean I particularly hate the drunk? I don't think so!!

@Ms. Smith.....if you're serious about running for office, I would be happy to meet with you for a brief discussion. There is theory regarding the justice system and government in general, and then there is the way it is.

So, you are basically saying that we should all have to live by your religious beliefs and morals should you be elected?

No thanks, I will pass, I still enjoy my freedom.

To Philip Lundquist,
You do understand, right, that it is against policy and procedure for Any Officer of the law to "fly their colour" and can get into serious trouble for doing so even when off duty and acting as a private citizen! Therefore you will seldom find Any Officer who is willing to risk risk disciplenary action by doing so. For an officer to to commit an act and putting him/herself in a compromising position then lying about it will be bringing upon themself firing not so much for their action but for the lie.

Talk about demons, you talk out of both sides of your mouth and expect people to vote for you?
You can fool some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time.

@ Jim Consolato, Not to worry, getting a vote for anything anytime by lying and pandering makes that vote unworthy of getting and my soul and morals Are and will Never be for sale for any reason and certainly not a vote into public office!

T RH
My consideration of running for representative is on the level of smaller government-state re-prsesentative for this district.

In the past I served the people of the state of Arizona on the state level for 351/2 years in an unpaid, under-valued capacity and for a period of that time I served the people of Mohave County simutaneously some paid some not. You are absolutely right about more issues needing to be addressed, social and other!
Our children have been and are being shortchanged in our current social and polictal arena and they are the ones of most importance in all this.
I'm too old for it too affect me for half a centry or longer but when I'm gone my grandchildren will be to suffer the brunt of it all.

@Ms. Smith - a principle which has been impressed upon me in Arizona is institutional lying (lying under colour of authority). It's one thing for a police officer to approach you based upon a lie, in order to get around all your dearly-bought rights, but that practise is to keep in power the liars in high places. The Vietnam War was based upon a pack of lies, and so have been the wars since. The various Wars On The American people (War On Drugs, etc.) have been based upon the lies that destroying lives, oftentimes without any regard at all to the law they are supposedly enforcing) is somehow helpful to anyone but powerful banking, other corporate, and military allies. I would probably consider your career choice a success if you were overrun in every endeavour on the Senate floor and in the whorring media and amongst dim-witted (and dimly-endowed in terms of personal character) citizens - just as long as at every turn, you loudly stand for what is right, what is sane regarding this nation's future, and do not - for any reasons - sell your soul and our lives out to the likes of Monsanto. Even if I were willing to chalk up the crime I experienced in Mohave County to the hick armpit of America (and I am not, because this IS America), it's how this plays out at higher levels of the land....it's necessarily a whole different story. You must do something.

@Jim Consolato. While I serve as a party secretary, I retain my personal opinions and as a candidate opposing GOP I am exhausted by intolerant wannabe dictators tauting tired republican talking points as if they were a "breath of fresh air."

Dear Mikel

I see no fererence in Ms Smiths letter that woul, prompt your outburst directed at a political party. You see, it's attitudes like yours that have placed this country in the position she wants to correct. You clearly demonstrate in your reply your inability to have intelligent, independent thought and instead blindly pledge allegiance to some ideology of a political party. Lack of intelligent independent thought appears to be epidemic fueled by political parties unable to present platforms of sense or produce results that are presented through anything but distorted data. Have a nice day.

I wish you luck but I also wish you would embrace SMALLER government in regard to the social issues too. Forcing married people to remain together helps no one and the best way for hetero couples to strengthen their own marriages is for them to stop worrying about what others do. If you don't like gay marriage , don't marry someone of the same sex. It really is that easy.
I agree 110% about the 2nd Amendment though and would vote for you on THAT issue alone. )

Amaryllis:

If your for real, then hats off to you for just saying no to political correctness. It does nothing but give the crooks something to hide behind. Too many people are afraid to speak up against things that violate their beliefs.
In order to get elected you might however have to lie and pander and sell your soul and maybe your morals for votes.

@ Mikel: It's a big world and there is room it it to negotiate all concerns for all people. I did not expect such negative polarity from you a Democratic icon in Mohave County.

@ pl--You Bet!

Thank you to thers others who wrote positive responses and to the negative, I do care about people, I also care about justice big time!
There are many other issues I believe should be addressed as well as the ones in my original letter of intent of consideration.

As I stated in my letter I Do Not have a college degree but, I believe Life experience is is of greatest value and college degree are overrated in our culture. I believe an open minded person who continues to learn throughout their lifetime is a wonderous asset to our youth and all people.

Wow! With an agenda like that I can only wish you the worst of luck. It's time we had people who cared about the lives of others instead of merely wanting to inflict their narrow vision of society. The worst of luck to ma'am. May you fail miserably.

Other than that though, best wishes for a safe life. May you get freed from those GOP demons destroying your brain cells soon.
