Letter: Who's in charge here?

There has never been a perfect president. Each and every one of them had both triumphs and failures to add to their legacies - even Ronald Reagan and Barrack Obama. Some presidents were despised by many, and some were loved, but not one of them was loved by everyone. The problem lies in the fact that every American citizen has a different opinion on how this country should be run. Therefore, there will never be a president who could even come close to pleasing all of us.

But the upcoming 2014 and 2016 elections may be the most important elections ever held. The difference between the Republican and Democratic parties is overwhelming, confusing and downright irresponsible. The U.S. government is supposed to work for its citizens, not corporations, not pharmaceutical or insurance companies, and not just the wealthy. They are to govern every American citizen above all else. And therein lies the difference. The Republicans work for and protect the wealthy and big business. The Democrats work for and protect the poor, the ill, the elderly, children, women and the everyday average person - that's you and me.

If the Republicans should win the majority in both the House and the Senate, life in America will change dramatically, and definitely not for the better. Their "New World Order" will consist of repealing every program that offers aid or stability to our hard-working citizens, while making sure that corporations, big businesses and the wealthy flourish. Schools, Social Security and Medicare will become privatized. Unemployment insurance, the ACA and many other programs will be repealed. They wouldn't mind throwing 8 million people off the ACA, most of whom never had health insurance before. Not if it means more money for the wealthy.

It is important for every person eligible to vote to cast their ballot. Before you do, however, think about whether you want the wealthy and corporations to rule this country, or if you'd rather have a government that will work for and protect you.

"But when it comes to private decisions between a woman and her doctor, it’s perfectly ok for big government to step in and make that decision for her."

You certainly have the liberal talking bullet down pat, (a private decision between a woman and her doctor), except that talking point leaves out one very important party the person who is being murdered.

Also, I would think that the "privacy" argument doesn't hold up any more, since under Obama Care, all of our medical records are digitalized and made available to the IRS without the consent of millions of Americans.

The right wing is fizzling in its failures, at best they come up with these nothing conspiracy theories such as the 50 year Kenyan plot to install a secret Muslim into white house, they have moved onto other conspiracies, Fast & Furious, IRS, Benghazi etc., when it all is simple a few racists, bigots, on the far right wing who just cannot accept their two great white hopes lost bid for white house to a non-white fellow which drives them insane!

Oh Ya:

Incidentally, the Congressional Budget Office says at NO time will those without health insurance EVER go below 30 million. AT NO TIME.

That is more than were uninsured in the first place. Yeah, a real success.

ACA is scaring the heck out of the right! That's why they have been pushing to get rid of it. The only ones I see complaining about it is the right and more than likely because the gig is up. Those were not likely junk policies that got dropped, more likely they were policies sold by right wing agents, at a reduced rate while they charged the left outrageous prices that were beyond their means. I say so long as it's upsetting the right, then it must be helping the less fortunate which converts into votes.

Bob Moore:

Why do you need more money for education? If you were in charge, for what purpose would you use it? Be specific. With more money thrown at education, would children learn better, faster, be taught more truth than the crap some of them are now getting thru Common Core?

Does it REALLY take money to teach children correctly? Each child now has more money allotted to them than ever before and we see what results? More liberal BS.....throw money at everything.

ACORN did NOT go out of business. They are still out there, under all new names. But you already know that and are splitting hairs.

You're on thin ice again talking about my own personal healthcare.

Linda:

Conservatives claim they want to reduce the size of government and get it off of our backs. But when it comes to private decisions between a woman and her doctor, it’s perfectly ok for big government to step in and make that decision for her. Funny how that works.

As far as the ACA is concerned, I guess you didn’t know that the number of uninsured people is now at the lowest level in at least five years and is still dropping, despite the best efforts of conservatives to kill health care reform. It’s odd how an idea like expanding the availability of private health insurance can somehow be called a government takeover by conservatives. Like it or not, the ACA is the conservative alternative to a single payer system. It’s just that when Obama embraced it, the GOP decided to oppose an idea it previously supported.

You need to understand something about today’s GOP. Everything they do and every false narrative and lie they spread about their political opposition is done in order to hold onto power. It’s never about helping the average person.

I know, the 1,020 days taken by The Criminal during his eight year reign of error was disgusting.

Uhh, ACORN went out of business in 2010.

“Republicans believe that a man should learn how to fish for a lifetime…”

So that explains why Republicans are constantly cutting funds for education? Right?

“Please pay attention to the facts, not the blogs and BS all over the internet.”

Check your facts Roy, it was the Criminal Bush who stole $2.3 Trillion from the Social Security Funds to finance his two illegal wars! For this very reason, it is why Social Security contributes to the national debt The American people will never see those funds comeback.

Once again I will ask you where did you get that 60 million number? And what period does it cover – a year, ten years, time and all eternity?

“obamacare that has completely taken over another most private part of your life, your choice of health care.”

Nope, still wrong. Why do you post this day after day? And why are you – a person who thrives on government supported health care – so against every American having access to health care?

And as to abortion – Don’t like abortion, don’t have one. In all other cases mind your own business. And you have yet to explain how a woman making a personal and private decision to undergo a legal medical procedure directly impacts your life?

Family planning is a little different than killing your unborn child. All the Conservatives are trying to do is stop the slaughter (NOW AT 60 MILLION IN THE U. S. ALONE) of pre-born babies.

How do you have the gall to call a decision to kill your own progeny family plannning? That is complete insanity. How about if Granny gets old and comes to live with you and she's a bother? By your thinking, you should be allowed to kill her. That's family planning also isn't it?

Funny, you defend your so called family planning, against intrusion, but defend obamacare that has completely taken over another most private part of your life, your choice of health care.

Naw, it wasn't about insuring the uninsured. If that were so, they would have insured the uninsured. Instead, they took over EVERYONE's health insurance, are throwing millions off policies they paid for, picked and wanted to put them on inferior policies with huge deductibles and payments many cannot even afford to pay.

Is the truth, right before your eyes, actually so hard to see? Is individual responsibility so hard for you libs to comprehend? Why the hatred for individual responsibility anyway?

“You will find that the Democrats were the ones who voted to take all the funds in Social Security and place them into the general fund…”

Absolute falsehood. Monies paid into the Social Security trust have never been "put into the general fund." The requirements for how the Social Security Trust Fund is to be financed and invested have not changed since the fund's inception in 1939. The reference to Democrats indicates your inability to understand a change implemented at the end of the Johnson administration that altered how the fund was accounted for in the budget, but did not change the actual operations of the fund itself.

In the 1980s interest in reducing Social Security spending saw Ronald the Dim signing a series of measures in 1983, 1985, and 1987 making the program a more distinct part of the budget and permitting Congressional floor objections to be raised against budget bills containing Social Security changes.

How many of these fine upstanding Democrats do you think are in the 'poorhouse' as opposed to the Republicans. As for this administration, one of my 1st memories is when Obama was chiding the veterans to pay for their own healthcare (while he was threatening to cut benefits to them) and said 'if you are so patriotic, then why not take the cut?" My neice has to pay $150 a month now for the head start program that has been cut. And if the Obamacare is so wonderful, then why did the DEMOCRATS vote to 'exempt' themselves and their staff? And if you are so against capitalism, then maybe you can tell that to the company that pays your salary. It is after all, where the jobs come from. But, let's punish them instead of someone like Pelosi who passes bills so that her husband can get tax breaks. And let's not even mention the insane amount of vacations at our expense while a record # of homeless goes higher and higher. Remember all the houses foreclosed on? Obama was all over that, and nothing happened to ACORN in all the fuss. Republicans believe that a man should learn how to fish for a lifetime, and give him a place to fish. Democrats put a chicken in every pot,and count on the takers for all the votes. Please pay attention to the facts, not the blogs and BS all over the internet.

As I read these comments all I can think of is my father's advice on politics.

"Show me a Politician, I'll show you a crook."

My Father and I see Mr Doug Heard are on same page I have found myself.

Nobody in Washington cares about you, me, or what party we choose. .

Our Government is broken. We can't repair it because we have given it more power than it can handle.

Which is a fantastic reason the second amendment should never fall. We are reaching a point of having to take the power away from those we elect and begin to repair this mess.

We will need our guns. Or Our government WILL have the power to rule the people against the peoples will.

The two party system which George Washington believed would ruin the Government. HAS Ruined the Government by dividing us to a point we will refuse to work together simply because we feel there must be a "Winner" and a Loser".

By that thinking to the Winner go the spoils. Then we fight during each administrations term or terms trying to control the spoils.

We still try to convince everyone to vote for their party of choice. As long as the Electoral College controls the Presidential Elections outcome by negating the popular vote you may as well stay home. Your Electorate will decide without asking you.

Lori you need to check your so called facts before printing them. If you tell a false statement enough, some people will believe you but is that what you really want? Why not tell the truth and let the people decide who they vote for. I would hate to know my party had to tell lies to win an election but that happens all the time. Please check the facts before spurting lies and that goes for both sides. Yes, we need change but I think we need change on both sides. How can people like John Kerry, Pelosi, McCain, and others become millionairs on a congressman's salary without taking kickbacks and money to buy their votes in congress? All of those in office now take kick backs and are thieves. Vote totally new people in and have term limits just like the president. Two terms and you are finishedand no retirement after serving only two terms..

I have puzzled for years trying to figure out why so many people in this country continually vote against their best interests. Why does a retiree on Social Security and Medicare vote for a political party that would, if given half the chance, take those things away? Why would a woman vote for a politician that does not trust her to make decisions about planning her family?

Over the last 80 years, the Republican Party has fought against every social and economic advance benefiting the working poor and middle class. Whether it was Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, minimum wage, or the Affordable Care Act, to name a few, it was the Democratic Party that supported those ideas and got the necessary legislation passed, usually without very many GOP votes.

Over the last 30 years, GOP-supported tax cuts for the wealthy that have utterly failed to pay for themselves. There has been tremendous flow of wealth upward from the working poor and middle class to the rich and to corporations, many of which refuse to pay a living wage. The GOP refuses to consider an increase in the minimum wage, so we end up subsidizing those companies with taxpayer dollars that go to food stamps for their underpaid workers.

So again why would anyone vote for such a political party?

You mean the book reviewed in the following manner, “In the latest of his many far right wing conspiracy books Klein gathers up every Obama-hating conspiracy theory and crackpot notion to ‘lay the ground work’ for impeaching our first African-American president. ‘Impeachable Offenses’ is published by World Net Daily that dips deeply into the bottomless well of slime to re-hurl gobs of old accusations that haven't ‘stuck’ to Barack Obama for lack of a real, coherent and actionable complaint against the president.”

“NSA - Spying on us in every way.”

Started by The Criminal and you were warned when he did it.

”Fast and Furious”

Started by The Criminal stopped by Eric Holder.

”Bengazigate”

Nope, 7 session, 12 reports and 25,000 pages of testimony are proof there is no such thing as “Benghazigate.”

LGD, do you know how uneducated your opinion is? You have yet to hear one speach or promise but you've already decided who you should vote for. The wealthy and corporations aren't the biggest problem for taxpayers, it's the growing number of people who want a free ride. And many of them are young and healthy who choose NOT to work. And yet you group them with people who really need help.

Please be more specific about what programs give more stability to U S citizens. Millions on SSI/food stamps isn't stability, it is dependency for lack of jobs.

Obamacare has forced people to give up insurance they paid for themselves, wanted and needed and forced them onto what they do not want. How is that good Lori? Plus, you must address "if you like your insurance....like your Dr...you can keep them" lies. MAJOR, MAJOR LIE RIGHT IN OUR FACES. No problem?

Why do you hate big business and big corporations? You would have hated us I suppose. We started with he and I, long hours, risks with our OWN money, built a business w/35 employees, then two branch offices in other cities. About 65 employees in all.

No, not huge but big enough you worked your ass off to make sure you made the payroll for everyone and we did without to do so. Never got a big fancy house, didn't drive fancy cars. We WORKED mostly.

End result, many who were unemployed got good jobs, excellent training, full health and retirement benefits. Also, built new building, nice place to work. Our hard work paid off, we helped lift many out of despair in a high unemployment town.

This same story is repeated all across the U S. To you it is evil?

Lori, I was right there with you until you said, “The Democrats work for and protect the poor, the ill, the elderly, children, women and the everyday average person,”

The Dems have their hands out to billionaires too. In fact they have more billionaires in their pocket than the Reps.

The list of billionaire donors to Democrats condemning out-of-state billionaire donors includes billionaires Eli Broad, Jon Stryker, Warren Buffet, George Soros, Bloomberg, Oprah, Steven Spielberg and Dirk Ziff.

Also ponying up money to the Democrats are almost-billionaire Hollywood donors such as Jay Z, Jeffrey Katzenberg and the Weinstein Company.

THEY are the 1% and got their money exploiting poor with products that perpetrate violence and indoctrinate minorities into believing they can do nothing on their own without a white persons help.

These people donate to the party and not to causes that help anyone.

The Democrats put that money into campaigns and the politicians, not people.

Is that the milk of human kindness you refer to?

If so, pour me a glass of that billion dollar compassion.

The Democrats SAY they are for the downtrodden but the reality is they do nothing but divide according to race and sex and are more corrupt than any administration/party in our history.

This administration you protect is the most corrupt in the history of our country. Every single department has corruption in it. Scandals so numerous, I lose count. I have a whole book by Klein/Elliott on "Impeachable Offenses".

NSA - Spying on us in every way. Validated it is worse than has ever been done. Noone held accountable.

Fast and Furious - Illegally giving thousands of guns to cartels who in turn killed hundreds of innocent Mexicans/BP agent - noone held accountable.

Bengazigate - Gunrunning coverup - four Americans dead. Stand down told to those ready to rescue, this to cover Hillary's butt.

As usual, you start with a sentence/paragraph that's neutral, accepting and understanding of all. Then denigrate anybody who doesn't agree with you (i.e. all non-liberal republicans).

A quick check of the last 25, 50, 75 and 100 year periods says the D's and R's are fairly evenly divided in presidential years.
So, of course, my questions are:
1) Why haven't the R's privatized schools, SS and Medicare in their terms?
2) Why haven't the D's solved all the problems for the poor, the ill, the elderly, children, and women?
I do disagree with your statement that the above is "the everyday average person". I know many middle/higher income, healthy, young/middle aged black/white men who consider themselves average people. It just seems like you listed groups the D's target for votes.

As far as life in America changing drastically, that's what Obama promised. I don't think it's been a positive change but I'm sure you do.

Our opinions differ in that you (D's) want a government that will take care of us from the cradle to the grave which sure gets a lot of votes but doesn't build much self esteem or independence. I want a government that will give everybody, not just your list of "preferreds", an equal chance to attain whatever they can in life if they are willing to work for it.

It IS a scary thought. Blows my mind as to why the misinformed and easily fooled, vote Republican. There are low income "Republicans" out there who actually believe all Democrats are on the dole. Where did they glean that information? The GOP needs low information voter support, so they propagate the internet and tv with non factual ads and stories. The wealthy are paying some of the lowest tax rates in history, yet they want more cuts!
