John Reginald (Reggie) Palmer
John Reginald (Reggie) Palmer died June 9, 2000 in Kingman of multiple sclerosis.
He was 46.
Palmer was born Dec.
21, 1953 in Chilhowie, Va., where he married Ruth Rhea Carter in 1976.
He graduated from Chilhowie High School in 1972, and earned a bachelor of arts degree in education from Emory and Henry College in Emory, Va.
Palmer worked as a teaching assistant and substitute teacher in the Kingman Elementary School District.
He also helped travelers for several years in the Kingman Area Chamber of Commerce Office of Tourist Information, and was a player and coach in the Kingman softball leagues.
Palmer excelled in many sports during high school and college.
He was inducted into the Smyth County (Va.) Sports Hall of Fame in 1998 for his football and track achievements.
Palmer is survived by: his wife, Ruth, of Kingman; his parents, Roy and Margaret Palmer, of Chilhowie, Va.; a brother, David Palmer, of Bristol, Tenn.; three nieces and a nephew.
A memorial celebration of Mr.
Palmer¹s life will be celebrated at 6:30 p.m.
Monday June 12, 2000 in the banquet room of the Dam Bar Restaurant at 1960 E.
Andy Devine Ave.
He will be buried in Chilhowie, Va.
Palmer helped organize the Kingman Multiple Sclerosis Group.
