Elihue Benjamin 'Al' Davis

Elihue Benjamin "Al" Davis died Tuesday July 31, 2001, in Kingman.

He was 81.


Davis was born July 5, 1920, on the back of a buckboard enroute to Miles City, Mont.

He was raised in Polson, Mont.

An athlete, Mr.

Davis held the state record for the high hurdles for eight years after his graduation.

He enlisted in the U.S.

Navy and served on the U.S.S.

Enterprise, the most decorated carrier of World War II.

He was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars for 59 years.

He was a mechanic by trade and retired at age 49.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed scuba diving in Mexico.


Davis is survived by: his wife of 54 years, Lillian Davis of Kingman; three children: Dennis Davis of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Toni Cummings of Auburn, Wash., and Lynda Butterworth of Salt Lake City, Utah; one sister, Bonnie Allred of Polson, Mont.; one brother, Harley Davis of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and four grandchildren.

One sister, Betty Ridenour, preceded him in death.

A service of remembrance will be held at 10 a.m.

Sunday Aug.

5, 2001, at VFW Post 10386.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the VFW may be made in his name.

A wake will be held in Idaho Falls, Idaho at a later date.
