Two killed in helicopter crash north of Dolan Springs

A helicopter crash just off Highway 93 near Dolan Springs killed two people shortly before noon Monday.

The helicopter crashed after striking power lines just off the highway about 30 miles south of Hoover Dam killing the pilot and an passenger, Mohave County Sheriff's Office spokesman Jarrod Lyman said.

The names of the victims have not been released this morning pending notification of next of kin.

The man and a woman, both from Arizona, were traveling from Las Vegas to Phoenix, Lyman said.

The small helicopter, a Robinson that seated two people struck the power lines then slammed into the ground about 30 feet west of the southbound lanes of the highway, Lyman said.

The accident was the third helicopter crash in the last two months.

Two people from a television film crew suffered minor injuries after their helicopter also struck power lines in Valle Vista Nov.

The pilot was uninjured and refused medical treatment.

A week later, a 60-year-old Park City, Utah man was killed when his helicopter also struck power lines on Stockton Hill Road about 20 miles north of Kingman.
