Kingman High School's Academic Decathlon Team, led by juniors Jessica Lawless and Christina Mills, took fourth place among 16 teams at the Arizona Academic Decathlon Region I meet Feb.
1-2 in Flagstaff.
Lawless received a plaque for writing the best overall essay.
She also took first place in language and essay, third in speech and music, and fourth in art, and took fourth place overall in the varsity division.
Mills took first place in music, third in essay, fourth in art and sixth overall.
Mariah Lawless earned a fifth-place finish in music in the honors division.
Jennifer Weed, also competing in the honors division, took third in language and literature, and fifth in science.
Other students competing for the KHS team were Amber Balta, Rachael Bone, Amanda Depoe and Elaina Jones.
The advisers were Claudette Peterson and Bonnie Willett.
The team awaits an invitation to the state academic decathlon meet.
The top 40 teams from the four regional meets qualify.
