Death of a Dolan Springs youth remains unsolved

A Dolan Springs teen-ager was slain almost a year ago and there are still no leads to the identity of the suspects.

Keith Ardell Benefield died of injuries after being found on Pierce Ferry Road on April 11, and his family is asking for help in solving the mystery.

Mohave Silent Witness is still offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to arrest and conviction of a suspect.

Keith's father, Max Benefield, said the family will hold a memorial service from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Benefield was found around 11 p.m.

last April 11 at milepost 3 on Pierce Ferry Road, suffering from severe head injuries.

Mohave County Sheriff's Office detectives determined that Benefield had not been struck by a vehicle.

The injuries appeared to have been from a blunt object such as a baseball bat.

No weapons were found.

Benefield was discovered by friends about a mile and a half from where he lived with his father and one of his two sisters.

Benefield was treated by paramedics from Lake Mohave Ranchos Fire Department and flown to Kingman Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead, detectives said.

The elder Benefield, who works in Kingman area, has said his son had been living with his mother in Salinas, Calif., before returning to live with him earlier in the year.

Benefield last saw his son around 7:20 that evening.

Keith Benefield would have been a ninth-grader at Kingman High School South Campus this school year.

He had attended Mount Tipton Elementary School in Dolan Springs.

Leads in the case are sparse, MCSO spokesman Jarrod Lyman said.
