Two people from Glendale were killed Friday night in a single-vehicle accident on U.S.
Highway 93 south of Hoover Dam.
Ernesto Andre Gonzalez, 18, and Luz Andrea Gonzalez, 40, died at the scene from massive trauma when the right rear tire tread came off their 1997 Chevrolet mini-van about 18 miles south of Hoover Dam, an Arizona Department of Public Safety report stated.
After the tire tread came off, the van, heading northbound on the highway, went into the median then rolled several times before it ended up near the southbound side of the median.
Information on the type of tire was not available.
The driver, Ernesto Gonzalez, and a passenger were ejected from the vehicle.
It was unclear if the two had been wearing seat belts.
According to a Dolan Springs salvage yard worker, the top of the van had nearly been peeled off and the air bags did not inflate.
The accident also injured four other passengers, all from Glendale.
Kalah Morris, 17, and Lucianne Gonzalez, 19 were taken to Kingman Regional Medical Center for evaluation.
David Gonzalez, 15, and Ernesto Gonzalez, 54, were taken to University Medical Center in Las Vegas also for evaluation.
