The Kingman High School softball team lost to Clovis (Calif.) 6-0, in the team's first game of the Mohave tournament.
Clovis is a national top-10 team and despite the loss, Coach Salina Fogg said she was proud of her team keeping the game such a low-scoring affair.
Freshman Paige Afflec threw for the Bulldogs and only gave up three runs until the sixth inning.
"The defense held up well," Fogg said.
"We made plays when we needed to make, and Paige threw a real good game."
Senior Julia Lasiloo had the lone hit for Kingman in the game.
The Bulldogs played Canyon del Oro Friday morning, and the rest of their schedule was based on wins or losses.
Freshman Jennifer Messer was to pitch in the first game Friday, with Afflec throwing in game No.
"Those two are just getting the job done and letting the team back them up," Fogg said.
"I'm impressed with them."
Canyon del Oro defeated Kingman in last year's state tournament but lost its first game in the Mohave tournament.
"The girls felt good about the way they played," Fogg said.
"It show what we're capable of defensively."
