KHS may play on Sept. 2 after all

Hayden. Bulldogs' scheduled opponent, may field varsity football team

KINGMAN The bus scheduled for the varsity football team's season opener may still be needed on Sept. 2.

Kingman High Athletic Director Tim Casson said he received word from the Phoenix Union School District that the Carl Hayden High School Falcons are planning to keep their varsity squad and play the Bulldogs in two weeks.

Arizona Interscholastic Association Associate Executive Director Glen Treadaway said it was his understanding that Carl Hayden Athletic Director Manuel Calderon had submitted a request to cancel his previous request to cancel the varsity football season.

Calderon could not be reached for comment on how he planned to field a varsity team and if the players would be ready in time for their first game against the Bulldogs.

Casson said the decision to play the school's varsity schedule will be discussed tonight by the Phoenix Union School District board for final approval.
