Joan T. Becker
Joan T. Becker, 85, peacefully passed away on Aug. 22, 2005, at Kingman Regional Medical Center.
Born on March 2, 1920, in Great Yarmouth, England, to Harry and Hilda Marie Bolas, Joan's family immigrated to America when she was five years old. Traveling extensively in her younger years, Joan spent time in Hawaii during World War II.
After the attack on Pearl Harbor, she returned to Santa Barbara, Calif., where she met William W. Becker upon his return from serving in the war. Married on Dec. 6, 1945, the Beckers resided in Santa Barbara until they relocated to Arizona. They purchased the Fort Rock Ranch in 1970, permanently moved to operate the ranch in 1978, and then moved into Kingman in 1996 after the sale of the ranch.
Shortly after moving to the Kingman area, Bill Becker founded The Stockmen's Bank, which began operation in 1980. Joan is responsible for the western-style décor of most of the bank branches. Employees will remember Joan, with hammer and nails in hand, making sure everything was "just so" and always with a smile. She was a beloved and cherished bank family member and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Joan is survived by her husband of 59 years, William Becker; daughter, JoAnn Sharp of Scottsdale; son, Tod W. Becker of Kingman; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
At Joan's request, a private memorial service will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Joan T. Becker Memorial Fund at any branch of The Stockmen's Bank. Proceeds will be used to benefit various area charities, as well as the Mohave Community College nursing program.
