Indecent exposure case continued

KINGMAN The case of a convicted sex offender who was arrested by Kingman Police officers in April on two new counts of indecent exposure has been continued to 8:30 a.m. July 13 to allow the defendant time to hire private counsel.

KPD arrested Marcus Dean Payne, 42, of Golden Valley in late April for allegedly exposing his genitals to two 14-year-old girls inside a store in the 3100 block of Stockton Hill Road. The girls told their parents, who called the KPD.

The description the girls provided matched that of Payne, a registered sex offender living in Golden Valley who already was on probation for two prior indecent exposure offenses in 2003.

Payne is being held in Mohave County Jail without bond for probation violation and the indecent exposure charges.

Superior Court Judge Steven F. Conn told Payne that if he plans to hire private counsel, to do so as soon as possible and to have counsel notify the court so his next appearance can be moved up.

"There's no sense in sitting in jail for the next five weeks with nothing happening," Conn said.
