Marvin "Jack" Holland was born in Quinland, Texas, on Feb. 17, 1919, to Alfred and Cora Holland. His early years were spent on the farm working hard through the Depression and the Dust Bowl years. His family eventually settled in Exeter, Calif.
He enlisted into the Army Air Corps in 1938 and began a long career of military service, retiring after 30 years with the rank of major.
In late 1940, Jack met Mavis Bozley in Fresno, Calif. They eloped to Reno, Nev., on their fifth date on Jan. 1, 1941. They were blessed with four children and remained madly in love with each other for over 60 years until Mavis passed away in 2001.
Jack went home to be with the Lord and to join Mavis and his son, Jack Andrew Holland, on Aug. 22, 2006.
Jack is survived by his sister, Doris Hofer of Reedly, Calif.; his brother, Calvin (Ara) Holland of Antioch, Calif.; his children, Linda Holland of Puyallup, Wash., Patrick (Kristine) Holland of Bothel, Wash., and Sherry (Douglas) Ohlemann of Kingman.
He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Angela (Mark) Hotchkiss, Christie (Anthony) Agtarap, Cindy (Shane) Compton, Shane McMurphy, Heather McMurphy and Kelly (Brian) Williams; loving step-grandfather to Laura Ohlemann, Kim Ohlemann, and Woodroe Ohlemann; by seven great-grandchildren; and by numerous nieces, nephews and friends from around the world. We will all miss your stories of your adventures that you share with us willingly.
Jack considered himself to be a blessed and favored man, and was always willing to share in a prayer.
The family would like to send out most gracious appreciation to Dr. Robert Matheny, HRMC Hospice, and The Gardens (specifically Lisa and Kelly) for their wonderful care of our father.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26, at Hilltop Foursquare Church, 2215 Emerson Ave. Pastor Norm Taylor will officiate.
