Smoking is not cool anymore

Your piece, "Smokers hit hard by passed props," would be more appropriate had it been written in 1960. In 2006, it is just plain ignorant. Every health organization in the United States has agreed that smoking is damaging to your health and that secondhand smoke can also affect those who do not smoke.

Perhaps you should enlighten your staff writer that most people do not smoke. Smoking is out; it's not cool anymore.

I have personally lost four members of my family who were heavy smokers to cancer and another member has just been diagnosed with lung cancer.

Instead of giving print space to a bunch of whining cigarette lovers, you might think about educating the public on just how dangerous this filthy habit is to your health. The public doesn't need some newspaper reporter carrying the colors for downtrodden smokers. Smoke-related diseases killed 430,000 people last year, which is more than twice the number of people living in Mohave County.

Wake up Daily Miner; you are in the 21st century.
