KINGMAN – Kingman Police detectives arrested Jason Arpad Peters, 31, of Kingman on Friday on felony charges of arson of an occupied structure, aggravated criminal damage and criminal damage.
Between Feb. 3-6, KPD officers took numerous reports of brush fires set, criminal damages and an arson fire set at an elementary school, a news release from the KPD stated. The incidents took place on the north side of Interstate 40 between the 1700 block of Beverly Avenue and the 2700 block of Andy Devine Avenue.
The arson fire at the school in the 3200 block of Harrison Street occurred about 8 p.m. Feb. 3 with damage to the exterior wall of the gymnasium. Parents and children had just returned from a field trip and were inside at the time.
Dry brush was intentionally ignited at seven locations in all. Criminal damage included initials being scratched into property, vehicles or structures.
Detectives identified Peters as a suspect during the investigation. Based on evidence and witness statements, he was taken into custody at his residence in the 2600 block of Beverly Avenue during the execution of a search warrant.
Peters was booked into Mohave County Jail.
A motive for the crimes still has not been determined.
KINGMAN – Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Michael Dwayne Yost, 49, of Kingman on Tuesday night on a felony parole violation warrant issued by the Arizona Department of Corrections.
About 5:27 p.m., deputies contacted Yost in the 3700 block of Northern Avenue, a news release from the MCSO stated.
The warrant was found during a records check. Yost was booked into Mohave County Jail.
