Bernard Claude Virtue

CPO Bernard C. Virtue, 68, lost his long battle with cancer at his home in Kingman Monday, March 6, 2006. He was born in Means, Ohio, on March 12, 1937.

He left behind his wife of 35 years, Betsy June Virtue; and four stepchildren, Larry Underwood of Kingman, Betsy Faulkner of Fredericksburg, Va., DeEtta Burris of Colliers, W.Va., and Rosemary Underwood of Orlando, Fla.

He has four surviving sisters, Wanda Headman of Follansbee, W.Va., Barbara Wolf of Steubenville, Ohio, Leonda Walker of East Liverpool, Ohio, and Rita Long of Steubenville, Ohio; and one brother, Philip Lee Virtue of Steubenville, Ohio. He was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Many, many nieces and nephews are scattered all over the United States.

Bernard served his country honorably in the Navy, and after retirement from the Navy, he retired from the civil service at the Quantico, Va., Marine Corp Base.

Arrangements are being handled by Sutton Memorial Funeral Home, 1702 Sycamore Ave., Kingman. Viewing will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 10, at Sutton. Services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 11, also at Sutton.

To his family he was a hero.
