Mona D. Burnham
Mona Burnham, 85, passed away on Monday, Nov. 6, 2006, with her family at her side. Mona was born in Cresco, Iowa; she spent the next 40 years in South Dakota.
In 1962, she moved to Kingman with her husband, Mory, and family. Mona went to work for J.C. Penney Co. Inc. and retired in 1983 after 20 years. She and Mory were co-owners of B & B Liquor Store.
Mona was active in both communities. She was a life-long Methodist, a member of the Democratic Party, Girl Scout, Mohave Museum of History and Arts, but she was proudest of her membership of 50 years in the American Legion Auxiliary Post in Salem, S.D. She enjoyed traveling to California, Florida and South Dakota, attending weddings, graduations, birthdays and anniversaries of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her sister's family's special occasions. She was known as Grandma to her grandchildren, but G.G. to her long-awaited great-grandchildren. Love of her family and friends, her words of wisdom, her sense of humor and especially her jokes will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Mona was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mory; her son, Ron Tarrell; and her grandson, Dan Tarrell. She is survived by three daughters, Carol (Dean) Anders of Solvang, Calif., Penny White of Kingman and Paula (Charlie) Johnson of Santa Barbara, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Carol Tarrell of Titusville, Fla.; and her sister, Betty (Wenny) Anderson of Canistota, S.D.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11, at St. John's United Methodist Church with Pastor Michael Bryant officiating. Interment will be in Canistota.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Mahmood Khan and Dr. Ismail Bokhari, Kingman Regional Medical Center Hospice, Desert Highlands Care Center and their hospice program for the excellent care given to her during her recent illness.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kingman Regional Medical Center Hospice or Mohave Museum of History and Arts.
