Alonza Lee Kelley, 83, of Kingman died Monday, Sept. 4, 2006, in Kingman. He was born June 17, 1923, in rural Johnson County, Mo.
He joined the Navy at 17 and served on the U.S.S. Enterprise. During the attack on Pearl Harbor, his ship was a day out from the port. The Enterprise saw more action in the Pacific than any other ship and received the most honors. He received a medical discharge and then worked for the federal government.
He retired from the federal government in California and moved to Alamogordo, N.M. He met and married Louise Rush and moved to Kingman, where they lived for the remainder of his 15 years.
He is survived by his wife, Louise H. Kelley; five stepchildren, Mary Hayeland, Dorothy Brandt, Sadie Burnell, Earl Roe and Illa Cress; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 11, at Sutton Memorial Funeral Home.
Interment will at Mountain View Cemetery.
