Havasu resident charged on March 28 with human smuggling

MOHAVE COUNTY - Mohave County Sheriff's deputies arrested five illegal immigrants and a Lake Havasu City resident on March 26.

At about 11:45 a.m., deputies conducted a traffic stop at Highway 95 and Boundary Cone Road, where they contacted eight individuals and determined that five of them were illegal immigrants. Immigration and Customs Enforcement assisted at the scene with determining the individuals' legal status in the United States.

The five illegal immigrants were taken to the Mohave County District II Substation, where Border Patrol Agents took them into custody. The illegal immigrants were working for Stucco Masters, a stucco contractor out of Lake Havasu City. Employer information was provided to Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents for follow up.

The driver, identified as Antonio Malagon, 19, of Lake Havasu City was arrested for smuggling of human beings for commercial purpose, a class 4 felony. Malagon was booked into the jail without incident.
