Sheriff seeks kidnapping suspect

KINGMAN - Mohave County Sheriff's Office is asking the public's assistance in locating Maurice Smith, 23, of Fort Valley, Ga.

At about 6:52 a.m. last Wednesday, deputies responded to a 911 call at the corner of Houck Road and Highway 68 in Golden Valley. Dispatch informed deputies that a male suspect attempted to kidnap two juvenile girls, ages 17 and 13.

Deputies were informed that two male passersby allegedly saw a male suspect chase the two girls across a field. The pair intervened and rescued the girls, while the male suspect fled in a semi-truck.

Deputies contacted both females, who said the male suspect grabbed them inappropriately and attempted to pull the 13-year-old girl into his semi-truck.

Deputies got a description of the semi-truck, which was later located at a truck stop in Kingman. Smith was reportedly seen walking with numerous bags of luggage near Flying J's truck stop on Andy Devine Avenue near Interstate 40. An Attempt to Locate was issued to area law enforcement.

Smith is wanted on a felony warrant for sexual conduct with minor and attempted kidnapping, issued by Mohave County Sheriff's Office.

Smith is a black male, five feet and six inches tall, weighing 145 pounds, with brown eyes and balding black hair.

Smith has numerous bags of luggage with him.

He is without a vehicle and believed to be attempting to travel to Georgia.
