James Edward Graves was born Nov. 7, 1928, in Atchison, Kan., to Fred D. and Melvina A. (Ekard) Graves. He died in the local hospital in Kingman on July 3, 2007.
He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He married Helen Johnson on March 6, 1954. Two children were born to the couple, Daniel W. and Rebecca A. Graves.
Mrs. Graves passed away in August 1980 in Grand Island, Neb. He married Deloris Kraning on June 19, 1982, in Grand Island. They made their home in Grand Island and Hastings, Neb.
The couple retired in 1997 and moved to Kingman. They joined Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where Mr. Graves served as chairman of the Board of Trustees and fiduciary officer from 1998 to 2007. A memorial fund has been established in Mr. Graves' name at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Deloris; children, Deborah Stine, Daniel Graves, LeeAnne Judy, Rebecca Graves and Melissa Bourne; grandchildren, Ryan and Jarrod Downs, Kellie Kehn, Kirsten and Kevin Judy, and Megan and Jacob Bourne; great-grandchildren, Addison and Tanner Downs; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.
Visitation was from noon to 1 p.m. on July 9 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, with Pastor Art Duttchen conducting the services at the church and at the graveside. Gail Fruhling was the organist. Interment was at Mountain View Cemetery.
