George M. Clarke

George M. Clarke, M.D., was born Jan. 14, 1932, in Kilgore, Texas. He went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, July 4, 2007, in his home with his wife, Arlene, by his side. He was the son of Edgar N. and Pearle M. Clarke. Raised by his mother, he grew up in Montana, Wyoming and Nebraska.

George attended St. Patrick's Catholic High School where he excelled in athletics as well as academics. He lettered in football as the quarterback all four years.

Upon graduation, he was offered an appointment at West Point but chose to pursue an undergraduate degree at Creighton University, which would better facilitate a career in medicine. George completed his medical degree at the University of Colorado Medical School. While in Denver, George met and married Marlene G. Beermann on July 11, 1958. They had three children, Robin, George and Sparrow.

In 1959, George graduated from medical school and began his internship at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix. After his internship, George went to Tulare, Calif., to complete a surgery residency. After his residency, he was asked by his close friend and fellow resident, Dr. John G. Lingenfelter, to come to Kingman to practice medicine. George and Marlene moved to Kingman in 1963. George practiced medicine in Kingman until 1987, and in 1988 began practice at the Mohave Valley Medical Center in Bullhead City where he practiced until 1997.

After 35 years of marriage, George's wife and mother of his children, Marlene, went home to be with the Lord in June of 1993. He later met and married Arlene Erickson.

George was a loving husband and wonderful father. He was continually imparting his deep faith in his Heavenly Father and unconditional love of his fellow man through his quiet example. His faith sustained him through life's many trials, and his gifts of empathy and understanding of others were truly amazing. He was a comfort and encouragement to all who truly knew him.

George is survived by his wife Arlene, his three children and their spouses and his grandchildren: Steve and Robin Clarke Hill, their sons, Stevie, Chase, Ty, and Cade of Bullhead City; his son, George Clarke and his wife Amy of Seal Beach, Calif., and daughter and son-in-law Gregory and Sparrow Zralka and their two children, Faith Marlene and Grant of Carlsbad, Calif.

Aside from his own children who he was so close to, George is survived by his step-son, Randall, his wife, Nina, and his step-daughter, Alicia Erickson and step-granddaughter, Rebecca Erickson, all of whom he dearly loved.

Services will be held at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Kingman at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Funeral Home on Tuesday and Rosary will begin at 6 p.m.

Dr. Clarke was loved and highly respected by many, cherished by his family, and will be truly missed.
