KINGMAN - The Kingman Police Department bomb squad detonated three to five sticks of dynamite Wednesday that were found in an abandoned vehicle in Golden Valley.

KPD was called to the scene Wednesday morning by the Mohave County Sheriff's Office after deputies found the explosives in a plastic bag of an abandoned Oldsmobile Cutlass near the intersection of Shinarump Drive and Colorado Road.

According to MCSO spokeswoman Trish Carter, deputies came upon the vehicle around 8:23 a.m. during a routine patrol.

The Mohave County Road Department worked with MCSO to close down Shinarump Drive between Colorado Road and Tombstone Trail. Members of the Sheriff's Citizen Action Team responded and directed traffic around the area.

The road was reopened to traffic at approximately 11:10 a.m.

Deputies contacted the individual registered to the abandoned vehicle, who reported he recently sold it. No further details were available due to the ongoing investigation.
