Shooting suspect arrested

Man in custody after series of violent events this morning

KINGMAN - Mohave County Sheriff's deputies arrested Mathew Michael Grubbe, 24, of Kingman early this morning following a shooting and hostage-taking incident.

About 12:49 a.m., deputies responded to a weapons offense call in the 4500 block of Edward Lane, MCSO spokeswoman Trish Carter said.

The reporting party, a bail bondsman, stated he was attempting to contact Grubbe when Grubbe allegedly fired a gun at him.

"The victim further stated Grubbe had entered a residence by breaking a window and was holding a 58-year-old male hostage inside," Carter said. "A short time later, the hostage exited safely. He told deputies a male subject with a gun broke in and demanded his car keys."

A MCSO Tactical Operations unit was called to the scene and persuaded Grubb to surrender. Grubb reportedly opened the front door, placed his gun on the ground, exited a few minutes later and was taken into custody. Grubbe was booked into Mohave County Jail on felony charges of armed robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, theft, and possession of a weapon by a prohibited person.
