James V. Haynes, 80, passed away May 9, 2007, in Tucson after a short illness. He was born May 2, 1927, in Blair, Neb., to Verne and Kathryn Haynes, and came to Kingman in 1938. He graduated from Mohave County Union High School in 1945 and served in the United States Army Occupation Forces in Germany. After his discharge, he worked at the Kingman Airport on the demolition of WWII aircraft and also at Davis Dam in its early construction stages.
He moved to Tucson in 1948 to attend the University of Arizona and then worked in the grocery business until his retirement in 1989. An avid baseball player, Mr. Haynes played in the Tucson Amateur League for more than 20 years and managed several teams after his playing days were over.
He is survived by three brothers, Jerry of Kingman, Gene (Gail) of Glendora, Calif., and John (Carolyn) of Prescott; and by several nephews and nieces. Mr. Haynes' family will hold a private memorial service later this summer.
