The Golden Valley Friends of the Library have resumed monthly meetings after a summer hiatus. Thursday's meeting came just in time to notify members that the Friends were named grand marshals of the Golden Valley Days celebration that took place over the weekend.
Although there weren't enough board members in attendance to make any decisions, those present agreed it was appropriate for the board members to represent the group in the Oct. 6 parade. General members would be there on the sidelines to cheer them on.
The seven members present also:
Welcomed new members Charlene Kelleher, Donna Newman, Patsy Boon McCarter and Bill McCarter.
Learned the Golden Valley Library will host a community library meeting at the library on Monday, and asked for volunteers to meet at 1 p.m. on Saturday to help spruce up the facility, and at 8 a.m. on Monday to help set up for the meeting.
Heard the book sale that had been planned for Golden Valley Days was cancelled because the board members would be involved in the parade and unavailable to help man the sale.
Received a report from Stella Carlzen, Mohave County community library coordinator, that the GV library's new copier has been delivered and installed, and is available for public and library use.
She also said the county library system is getting a new, larger Bookmobile, and that the old one will be used for visits to nursing homes and other small facilities.
The Golden Valley Friends of the Library will meet next at 6 p.m. on Nov. 8 at the library at 3417 N. Verde Road.
Those interested in joining are welcome to attend.
The group's primary goal is to support and raise money for the library.
