KINGMAN - Mohave County Sheriff's detectives arrested Jesse James Guzman, 18, of Kingman Friday afternoon for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Deputies responded to Kingman Regional Medical Center around 12:27 p.m. regarding a shooting victim. The 22-year-old male reported that he had been on North Bank Street when he was shot accidentally.
The victim's leg had been hit by a large quantity of birdshot. He was later airlifted to a hospital in Las Vegas for treatment.
During the investigation, deputies learned that Guzman and the victim were involved in a physical altercation the prior evening.
"Further investigations determined that Guzman shot the victim in his left leg with a shotgun," MCSO Public Information Specialist Trish Carter said in a news release.
Deputies contacted Guzman in the area of Hearne Avenue and Norrie Drive. During conversations with Guzman, he said that they got into an argument earlier in the 5000 block of north Bank Street.
Guzman allegedly said that he grabbed his shotgun while the victim was coming toward him and he shot the victim in the leg. Detectives transported Guzman to a residence in the 1100 block of Carver Street where deputies confiscated the shotgun.
