Mary Elizabeth Pickens of Kingman passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007. Mary, born Mary Elizabeth Matthews in Rankin, Texas, on March 14, 1916, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. When Mary was 16, she married her high school sweetheart, Emory James Pickens, also of Rankin.
Mary and Emory had three children, Emory James Pickens Jr. (Anne) of Surprise, Ariz., William Boyd Pickens (Rose) of Lake Havasu City and Anita Pickens Langford (Bill) of Kingman.
Mary worked at various jobs during her lifetime living in Flagstaff, Springerville and Casa Grande, before moving to Needles, Calif., where she and Emory became the managers of the local Sprouse Reitz store.
Later, Mary worked at Chambers Oil in Needles and for McCulloch in Lake Havasu City before retiring and moving to Kingman in the late 1970s.
She was an active member of College Park Baptist Church.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Emory James Pickens; a younger brother; a half sister, Beth Dalton; and a daughter-in-law, Rose Pickens.
Mary has seven grandchildren, Will Pickens of Gooding, Idaho; Robert Pickens of Lake Havasu City; Wanda Unger of Chino, Calif.; James Bruce Pickens of Tempe; Elizabeth Pickens of Columbia, Mo.; Mitchell Skinner of Henderson, Nev.; and Sarah Skinner Familian of Henderson; and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, at College Park Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, Mary requested that memorial contributions be made to Mary Pickens Memorial Fund, College Park Baptist Church, 1990 Jagerson Ave., Kingman, AZ 86409.
