Sarah Blair

Sarah Kathleen "Katie" Blair passed away peacefully at her home in Golden Valley on July 29, 2008. She was born in Hatch, N.M., on April 29, 1935, and moved to Kingman when she was 15 years old. She graduated from Mohave Union High School in Kingman in 1953. She married Carl Blair on July 25, 1955, in Flagstaff. They had three children together, Steven Carl Blair, Sharon Kay Blair and Jennifer Lee Blair. She was also a mother to her stepchildren, Carla "Penny" Blair and Buddy Blair. Katie loved her children very much, and she was also blessed with four wonderful grandchildren, Joshua Cee Blair, Shyloh Bay Blair, Sarah Judith Blair and Julie Elaine Griffin, and one very special 2-year-old great-granddaughter, Peri Tate Blair.

She was preceded in death by her father, Hobart Dunnigan "Doc" Wilbanks; her mother, Velva Lois Wilbanks; her sister, Bertha Bromley; brother-in-law, John Bromley; her sister Virginia "Ginger" Evenson; her stepson, John Blair; and her daughter, Sharon Kay Blair.

Katie was a member of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls in Barstow, Calif., growing up, and was also a member of Kingman Chapter No. 17 Order of the Eastern Star and was past mother advisor for Kingman Assembly No. 24.

Katie was very proud of her accomplishments while working at the Holiday Inn in Kingman. She started as a waitress and worked her way up to manager during her 10 years of employment. She graduated from Holiday Inn University and was a very successful manager.

She started working for Mohave County on April 18, 1985, and retired from the Human Resources Department on Jan. 29, 2001 after 15 years of service. She loved working with people and would talk to anyone, so this was the perfect job for her. She was quite excited that her daughter Jennifer not only followed in her Rainbow footsteps, but that she also followed in her HR footsteps as well.

She is survived by her ex-husband, Carl Blair of Paulden, Ariz.; brother, HD Wilbanks (Susan) of Waco, Texas; sister, Lois Hanna of Kingman; son, Steven Blair (Heather) of Golden Valley; daughter, Jennifer Anderson (Christopher) of Golden Valley; stepdaughter, Carla Blair of San Jose, Calif.; stepson, Buddy Blair (Melody) of Kingman; her four grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and several nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Katie was a very caring, loving, compassionate lady. She always put others' needs before her own, and she always wanted to help people. She was a loving mother and great friend. She will be deeply missed by family and friends.

The family would like to thank the KRMC Hospice team, as they were of great comfort to her as well as the family through the last year of Katie's life.

A memorial service for Katie will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Golden Valley Southern Baptist Church, 100 S. Higley Road, Golden Valley. The Rev. Joe Berna will be officiating.
