After I chased down KHS' football coach Jamie Nelson last week to get some juice on what was happening with the Bulldogs, Nelson related a tidbit of a story with me.
He was short a helmet for a player who had to wait until Nelson got one for him. It took a few days, but Nelson was finally able to give him one. Nelson told me when the kid was handed the helmet it was as if he had handed a little kid his first baseball mitt.
The player was so proud to have received his helmet that he began to run off before Nelson could make sure it fit. Nelson called him back and it did, indeed, fit.
When I heard this story, my sappiness took over as my heart swelled up. It was exciting to hear about a young person wanting so badly to be a part of the Bulldogs' football squad.
