Members of the Kingman/Golden Valley Association of Realtors sponsored a luncheon at the Dambar and Steakhouse in support of Kingman Aid to Abused People. All participants donated new linens to the domestic violence shelter. The Realtors and affiliates collected an estimated $875 worth of bedding.
KAAP has served Kingman and adjacent areas of Mohave County since 1985. As an organization, they are committed to providing safe emergency shelter, counseling, victim advocacy, a 24-hour crisis hotline, referrals and resources for victims of domestic violence. KAAP also provides a weekly community support group for domestic violence survivors/victims and community awareness presentations.
KAAP has two shelters in the Kingman area providing an average of 6,000 bed-nights during the last five years. During the 2007-2008 fiscal year, KAAP served 302 women and children. Residents can stay up to 120 days. During that time, KAAP provides a safe, healthy living environment and basic needs, such as, food, hygiene items, transportation and limited financial assistance. KAAP's funding comes from grants, corporate sponsorships and private donations.
