Traffic will be temporarily switched to new southbound lanes on U.S. 93 for approximately six months.
The Arizona Department of Transportation will redirect traffic on the southbound lanes at the Tompkins Canyon project area - approximately three miles north of Wikieup.
During the detour, construction crews will remove and rebuild existing northbound lanes. Motorists should expect short delays Tuesday through April 8 due to traffic switch restrictions, a release stated. Wide loads will also be prohibited during this time period.
ADOT is advising motorists to be aware of construction personnel and public safety officers. There will be posted speed limit signs and detour routes through the construction area.
The U.S. 93 Tompkins Canyon project is one of nine separate improvement projects which will provide motorists a continuous four-lane divided highway from Interstate 40 to Wikieup. The project is expected to be complete in the fall.
