Two $1k scholarships offered for public safety classes

KINGMAN - The Professional Fire Fighters of Kingman are offering two $1,000 public safety scholarships for area students.

The scholarships will be offered to individuals age 17 to 21 to attend a local fire academy or pay for emergency medical technician class.

"We'd like to keep it local," said Brian Francis with PFFK.

The deadline for the scholarship is May 19. Applications are available at Mohave Community College, Kingman Academy High, Kingman High, Kingman Fire Department's administration building, and Northern Arizona Consolidated Fire District Station No. 1 and administration building.

The Local 4191 of the International Association of Fire Fighters provides the funds for the scholarship.

"We've done it in the past," Francis said. "Last time was just a general scholarship."

The focus was changed to target individuals interested in public safety, he added.
