Joseph James DeTemple, born March 25, 1922, in Pittsburgh, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 26, 2009, in Kingman.
Joseph was a career military serviceman, having joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1941 and served in the United States Air Force until 1967.
Known to his friends and family as Joe, he was very proud of being not only a dedicated member of the Loyal Order of Moose, but was the past governor of Canonsburg Lodge No. 127. He was also awarded the Fellowship Degree in the Loyal Order of Moose. Joe belonged to the Legion of the Moose and was a member of the Moose 25 Club 75 Division at Lodge No. 127.
Joe was a member of the Kingman Moose Lodge No. 1704 when he passed. Joe was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 175 in Washington, Pa., and a lifetime member of VFW Post 927.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, Frank DeTemple; mother, Henrietta Campbell; brothers, Frank, John and Val; sisters, Marie and Frannie; and also his namesake grandson, Joseph James DeTemple. He is survived by sons, Joseph F. DeTemple of Vancouver, Wash., and John J. DeTemple of Kingman (also known as local former radio personality JJ Jackson); daughter, George Ann Perlongo of Las Vegas; sister, Sue Hixenbaugh of Burgettstown, Pa.; and eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Services were held on Aug. 10 at Forest Lawn Gardens in Washington, Pa. There will be a memorial for family and Moose members only at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Kingman Moose Lodge No. 1704.
An open reception will be held afterwards for friends of the family.
