Woman says fake police officer asked for information

KINGMAN - The Kingman Police Department is warning the public about an individual posing as an officer.

Police took a report Sunday evening from a woman who said she was approached by a man wearing a dark blue "uniform" who presented himself as a police officer. The incident is alleged to have occurred at a business in the 2600 block of Hualapai Mountain Road.

The man reportedly approached the woman asking her name, Social Security number and vehicle registration information. He told her that she matched the description of a suspect walking in the area. The woman refused to provide information.

The man was described as about 5-foot-5, with dark hair, brown eyes and several days of facial hair. He was wearing a dark short-sleeve uniform shirt with an unknown type of patch or insignia, a long-sleeve shirt underneath the uniform shirt, and he was driving a white sedan.

Police are asking for anyone with information on the subject's identity to contact KPD at (928) 753-2191 or Mohave Silent Witness at (928) 753-1234.

The department added that anyone contacted by a member of law enforcement should request identification if there is any doubt of their authenticity.
