PHOENIX - The Arizona Department of Public Safety is reporting that Interstate 40 between mileposts 150 and 160 near Williams is closed in both directions due to winter weather and an accident.
DPS is also reporting eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 between mileposts 185 and 215 are closed to traffic in both directions. Westbound lanes from milepost 213 to 215 have been reopened. DPS is conducting "rolling traffic breaks" to slow down traffic, visibility is still a problem in the area due to a dust storm.
The dust storm caused a 20-vehicle accident near milepost 190 that led to a commercial vehicle exploding and catching fire. At least four people were killed in the accident and an unknown number of people have been transported to Phoenix hospitals with burns and other injuries. According to DPS, the dust storm is moving east and affecting visibility along I-10 between mileposts 55 and 70.
DPS is also reporting severe winter weather on Highway 87 near Payson.
