Alec Padilla poured in 14 of his game-high 18 points in the first quarter as the Kingman Academy of Learning eighth-grade boys team ran away from Bullhead City Fox Creek 47-32 on Thursday at KAOL. The Coyotes used a 20-5 first quarter against the Falcons to earn their third win of the season.
Ty Sherwood scored 14, Johnny Herrero added three, and Michael Higuera and Devin Frey each had two for KAOL (3-1).
In sixth-and-seventh grade action, the Coyotes broke open a slim 16-11 lead at halftime with excellent execution of the full-court press to put away Fox Creek, 45-22. KAOL (2-0) was led by Aaron Hurt's 13 points and Lance Martin's 10. Henry Chinyere scored eight, Caleb Boyett and Austin "Goat" Tomlinson had four, and Breyden Potter and Quinn Garcia each added two.
Kingman Middle School
The Bobcats' seventh-grade boys hoops team won a defensive battle against Peach Springs this week with a 19-16 win. Despite being outsized, KMS was able to play outstanding defense and rebounded well.
The seventh-grade girls team was also able to secure a win against Peach Springs.
White Cliffs Middle School
The Wolves' basketball program had a tough time overall in the games against Needles. The eighth-grade girls team fell 26-13 and the seventh-grade squad was victimized 30-16 at WCMS on Wednesday.
The eighth-grade boys team went to Needles on Wednesday and suffered a 61-25 loss, and the seventh-grade team was edged 37-32.
KAHS JV boys basketball
It's the first year the Tigers have a JV team, and KAHS has begun the season with a 2-3 record. The Tigers have beaten EAGLE Academy and Phoenix E-Academie. Phoenix Romero, Peoria Desert Pointe and Peoria Skyline West each handed the Tigers a loss. KAHS will be in Dolan Springs on Thursday to face Mt. Tipton.
