On June 13 at the Yellow Pine Ranch, the Kingman Elks Lodge No. 468 held our first annual "Fishing for Smiles" kids fishing day. This fun-filled day was an event to remember for all 400-plus who attended and helped out.
On behalf of the Elks Lodge, we would like to express our sincere, heart-felt appreciation to the following local people and businesses who helped to make our "Fishing for Smiles" event such a great success:
First, to the 30 or more volunteers who worked so hard planning and scheduling this event - we couldn't have done it without you. To the many volunteers who spent hours and hours gathering equipment, materials and supplies, delivering it all to the lake, then setting up and preparing for the kids to arrive to fish, we thank you. To all who spent the day checking kids in and out, cooking, cleaning, serving lunch, baiting hooks, unhooking fish, untangling lines, weighing and cleaning fish, running the various activities and any number of other volunteer duties which made our fishing day so special; we appreciate all you did. We believe the volunteers had as much fun as the participants!
To the following businesses, it's because of your commitment to the kids in this community that our event was so successful and we sincerely appreciate what you do each and every time we request your help: Martin Swanty Hyundai, Bob Kay State Farm Insurance, Eastside Shell, Sysco Foods, Brown's Fish Farm, McKee Foods, Cool Photography, Culligan Water, Kingman Reddi Ice, DMC Fence Co., True Serve Distribution, West Coast Netting, R & S Hauling, Kingman Portable Toilets, Coca Cola of Kingman, Discount Sign Co., Staples Office Supplies, Trophy Mart, Holsum Bread, Wal-Mart, Lee's Uniform and Embroidery, and Zebco Brands Fishing Gear.
To the people and agencies who contributed time, energy, supplies and funds to help us succeed, we also thank you for your support: Arizona Game and Fish, Pinion Pines Fire Department, Mohave County Sheriff's Office Civil Volunteers, Kingman Academy of Learning, Mohave County Health Department, Kingman Elks Lodge No. 468, Johnie Hoeft, Ben Overson, Don Martin and the Elks National Foundation.
Finally, to the owners of Yellow Pine Ranch, without your last minute excitement and generosity, there is no way this event could have been such a great success. We sincerely appreciate your hospitality - what you have done is truly a gift. We are already excited about future "Fishing for Smiles" events.
