Two people were transported for non-life-threatening injuries after a commercial tractor-trailer ran into the back of another trailer while both were traveling eastbound on Interstate 40 around 6 p.m. Saturday. According to Pinion Pines Fire Capt. Gail Jackson, the first truck was traveling up the hill around milepost 58 at about 35 miles per hour with the flashers on when the second truck ran into the back of it. Both were hauling produce and caught fire following the collision. Both east- and westbound lanes of I-40 were closed for about an hour because of the heavy smoke.
