DPS sets up checkpoints for commercial drivers

KINGMAN - The Arizona Department of Public Safety started participation in Operation Roadcheck Tuesday.

The program sets up inspection checkpoints for commercial drivers along Interstates 40 and 17. Officers from various law enforcement agencies will be pulling over commercial drivers and checking their vehicles for safety and mechanical violations.

Additional checkpoints will be set up along with extra patrols in those locations for drivers trying to avoid checkpoints. The program is designed to prevent accidents involving large trucks and buses.

Last year, the Arizona Operation Roadcheck resulted in 835 commercial vehicles inspected, 196 being placed out of service for mechanical violations and 119 drivers being placed out of service.
