About 10 days before Christmas 2007, the pleasant life my wife and I were enjoying was interrupted by a fire in our house. The trauma we experienced was eased because of the care and concern of three entities. The first was the Good Samaritan driving down Stockton Hill Road who saw smoke coming from our outside vents. He called 911 and came to alert us. The second was the Kingman and Hualapai Fire Departments. The third was our neighbors.
The men of Kingman Station 3 and Hualapai Station 1 spent seven to eight hours limiting the damage to our home. If it hadn't been for their dedication, professionalism, thoroughness and especially their kindness to us, it would have been much worse. They were magnificent.
Our neighbors helped us remove contents, made coffee and were generally caring and concerned.
At long last we are back in our home and it is once again comfortable and beautiful. My wife is showing her appreciation by providing the two stations with her famous cheesecakes. By the way, her cheesecakes would put New York Deli's best to shame.
We will be eternally grateful to all concerned. All of our love and prayers go out to them. Thank a fireman or policeman the next time you see one.
Fred and Alma Walker, Kingman
