Elfreda Cheesbourg Swanick, better known to many as "Grammie Freda," passed away Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, surrounded by love in West Haven, Utah. She was 85 years old. She is survived by one sister, three children, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Grammie Freda was born in Tucson on Oct. 27, 1923, and spent the majority of her years in Arizona and California working for the United States Postal Service before relocating to Kingman. Grammie Freda believed that "children are the future" and became well known in the Kingman area as she selflessly lent her home and her heart to the children of her community. She gave generously yet asked for nothing in return, was always there when needed, and consistently spread positive, encouraging words to all who knew her.
Elfreda was a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to those blessed by her benevolence and compassion. She shall be remembered for the greatness in her soul and the kindness in her heart. She will be greatly missed as she joins the Lord and helps Him keep watch over endless generations of children from above.
