KINGMAN - The city's first CVS/pharmacy, currently under construction at the northwest corner of Stockton Hill Road and Airway Avenue, will open much earlier than originally anticipated.
According to Cindy Pruzinsky of the CVS Realty Company, the store at 3501 Stockton Hill Road should be ready to open by mid-July, roughly three months earlier than the October estimate given by the project's principal engineer, Chris Czyz of Armstrong Development in January.
At the time, Czyz said he believed construction would begin some time in May after several remaining planning details had been worked out.
Instead, the building permit was issued in mid-Feburary, and city building inspectors were observing construction as early as April 6.
According to Kingman's principal planner, Rich Ruggles, the details of the project remain essentially unchanged from January, however, once complete, the CVS store will include a two-lane drive-thru pharmacy similar to the Walgreens directly across it from Airway.
The CVS will also add a right-turn deceleration lane on southbound Stockton Hill Road incorporating a section of the existing Chuy's restaurant parking lot just to the north of the construction site.
Based in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, CVS/pharmacy is among the largest pharmacy chains in the United States, with 215,000 full time employees spread across more than 6,900 retail stores in 41 states. The chain specializes in prescription and over-the-counter drugs, and also carries a variety of cosmetics, seasonal merchandise, greeting cards, and sundry foods and beverages, as well as a photo finishing department.
