Second- and sixth-graders from Topock Elementary School recently participated in a field trip to the Mohave Community College Dental Hygiene Clinic to take part in the sealant program funded by a grant from the Legacy Foundation and Delta Dental Foundation. MCC dental hygiene students applied a plastic coating, or sealant, on the biting surfaces of permanent molars to seal out decay and help get the youngsters through the decay-prone years. Second-graders are chosen because they have their first molars, and sixth-graders have their second molars. MCC makes this service available to students in elementary schools throughout the Mohave Valley area.
