Joseph "Lefty" Leo Courtois, 83, of Kingman passed away Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, at Kingman Regional Medical Center. He was born Jan. 30, 1926, in Huntington Park, Calif., and moved to Kingman on April 1, 1992, from Ontario, Calif.
Lefty retired in 1992 from California Produce but went back to work for Tucker and Uptown Drug. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans and was a volunteer transport driver to the Veterans Hospital in Prescott. He was a volunteer at Chat-N-Chow and a volunteer with the Mohave County Fair.
He was a WWII Navy liberty ship veteran.
Lefty is survived by his wife, Sharon Joan Courtois of Kingman; his daughter, Cheryl (David) Heath of Texas; his sons, Larry Courtois of Montana, Greg Courtois of California and Kevin (Sharon) Courtois of California; his stepdaughter, Vicki Marie Gibbons of Kingman; and his stepsons, Mark (Vicki) Gibbons and Christopher Gibbons, both of Montana.
He is also survived by 13 grandchildren (Max was his special grandson and homework buddy) and two great-grandchildren.
Lefty was preceded in death by his father, Amie Willie Courtois; his mother, Yvonne Jane St. Hilaire Courtois; and two sisters, Ronnie and Collette.
