The Sheriff's Volunteer Posse attended a ceremony Aug. 27 where Sheriff Tom Sheahan swore in six new Posse members at the Mohave County Sheriff's Office in Kingman. The graduates completed a volunteer training academy held at the Sheriff's Office. The graduates are Dale Robinson, William Herring, Audrey Herring, Robert Mitmik, Barbara Pierce and Nancy Gervais. Richard Heckart was not present to be sworn in. The academy participants underwent a 32-hour class to prepare them for the position. Volunteers are utilized in many areas such as boating safety; community policing and crime prevention; animal control; media relations; computer data entry; dispatch operations; corrections and prisoner transportation; record keeping and research; radio communications; and neighborhood safety patrols. Anyone interested in future Sheriff's Volunteer Posse academies should contact their local Mohave County Sheriff's Office and pick up an application, complete it and return it to the Sheriff's Office.
