This year's Mohave County Fair was a big disappointment. My husband and I went to the gymkhana activities to watch our friend's children and grandchildren compete in various events with their horses. While the gymkhana events themselves were outstanding, the bandstand was not. Since the gymkhana arena and stand were in full sun, we decided to sit in the grandstands, which offer shade along with a great view of the arena. The grandstands were virtually empty, which gave us a choice of seating. As we approached, it soon became apparent why.
The bleachers and walkways were nearly covered with extremely large deposits of bird droppings. There were so much bird feces, it was difficult to find a section of bleachers large enough for two people to sit side by side. Aren't there diseases people can get from bird droppings? Looking over the appalling condition of the bleachers, we finally found a space to sit. We had to walk through the bird "stuff" to get there.
There is no reason for this. Last year, I completed an application for volunteer work at the fairgrounds, which I understood would include cleanup. I was not called then, nor was I called this year. One can assume all the duties and cleanup were covered by other volunteers, right? Hmmmm. We tried several times to call the fairgrounds to talk about this situation, but no one answered the phone.
