Cerbat Lanes job fairs get organized

KINGMAN - Thirty-five local business people in Kingman, including Mohave Community College and several area agencies, attended the job fair information meeting Jan. 21 at Cerbat Lanes.

Pat Taylor was elected as the chairman, Arlene Potash and Carol Costa are secretaries, and key officers are Kimberly Gissendanner, Laticia Candelaria, Vonda Pierce, Kerri Kuns and Pat Farrell.

Cerbat Lanes will host the bowling and job fair program for the unemployed of Kingman. The program is being simultaneously presented at Havasu Lanes in Lake Havasu City.

This committee will be approaching area businesses, offering them the opportunity to participate in this job fair.

The projected impact that is expected from this program is to show the unemployed that as a community we care; to give the unemployed the opportunity to see there are alternatives for them; to give local businesses the chance to find some real all-stars to employ to create new growth; and networking opportunities.

It was announced at the meeting that CNN will be doing a story on this and following our progress for national airing and putting this project forward as an example of what local communities can do for themselves during these economic changes.

Each week, the job fair will feature different local businesses and schools, although businesses may sign up for multiple weeks. MCC and key county programs will be present all 12 weeks. DES will have computers on site connected to the Internet and assistance will be available to help participants to register.

The participating businesses and schools will be scheduled in advance to assure they have a spot on a specific day.

The program offers 12 weeks of free bowling while participating in the job fair. The program will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesdays beginning on Feb. 10. Each participant must be unemployed, at least 18 years of age and actively seeking employment. The first 120 participants who register with Cerbat Lanes will be given spots on the bowling lanes.

Area businesses interested in participating may contact Cerbat Lanes Assistant Manager Yvonne Davis at (928) 692-1818.
